The inaugural meeting of Mullagh ICA was held in Mullagh Parochial Hall on Friday 22nd January 1965. The area organisers, Mrs. Gleeson, Mrs. Nan Healy nee Crehan, Lahinch and Mrs. Murrihy, Miltown Malbay attended this meeting.
Fr. Denis Moroney C.C. welcomed the guests and said he was pleased to be associated with the foundation of and ICA guild in the Parish. The visiting ICA members spoke of the aims and social aspect of the ICA at a time when there was little social outlet for the women of Ireland. They also spoke of the importance of cultivating and preserving local crafts and traditions. Fourteen members attended the inaugural meeting and the first Mullagh Guild comprised the following: President: Mrs. Peggy Greene, Treasurer: Mrs. Mary Sexton, Secretary: Mrs. K. O’Neill, Committee Members: Mrs. M. McNamara, Mrs. C. Kelly, Mrs. M. Torpey, Mrs. B. Carey and Mrs. M. Lynch.
Now 46 years later our guild is still going strong. The format meetings have changed over the years, but the aims and social aspect of the guild remain unchanged. Each month we host a different speaker or craft demonstrator and the guild is always happy to assist with catering at any event within the Parish.
The guild meets on the first Wednesday of each month. The venue is the Parish Meeting Room, adjoining Mullagh Parochial Hall. A warm welcome awaits everybody.
